23 Candles

I can't state enough what a crazy few weeks this has been. I've already completed a full month at my job (which it seems like I've only been there a few days), I've moved into my new apartment and am actually living here, with a large amount of disorganization surrounding me, and I am still training for this marathon in November, training being me running 17 miles on Sunday. Like I stated, crazy.

Between the lack of sleep, the work schedule, and the continuous moving process, I somehow managed to squeeze in some  time for fun. Last Friday, my brother Daniel and I went to the Weepies concert at Variety Playhouse. The show was amazing, with a perfect stage set-up and props that resembled their music. They have a very soothing, lullaby, emotionally moving sound to them, and it become very obvious it affected lots of people, especially when I turned around to see a girl bawling her eyes out. I'm glad I didn't get to that point. I had been listening to their music for a while before the concert, and was really excited to find Daniel and I could gain practically front row seats thanks to the general admission status of Variety Playhouse's tickets. I also scored the set list! What a cool thing to have. Hopefully the Weepies will begin getting more publicity and exposure, since they are definitely a husband-wife duo to take note of.

Wednesday involved another trip to Little Five Points at Star Bar to see Tumbleweed Stampede, a band from Athens. I know one of their members, and it was cool seeing that people actually came to watch them, even though they are a lesser known band from a city over an hour away from the venue. Their large amount of band members (I believe 9), including a tuba and trombone player, was a completely refreshing take on the standard 3 or 4 piece band. It was also about to be my birthday that night, at midnight. Somehow I turned 23. Wow, old. I can't imagine how I'll feel at 24.

My birthday turned into just dinner with dad and dessert with mom, with the intention of me passing out before 10pm. This weekend, I am sure, will fly by. But Friday night with Danielle already set a good launching point for my new life in Atlanta.

Laboring for Labor Day

Well, my Labor Day weekend didn't officially begin until Saturday night. I work six days a week, 5 at the Propel Agency and Saturdays at Notable Weddings. Labor Day weekend was no different. After walking away from the Wedding planner's beaten and bruised due to some attacks by mannequins and rolling racks, I finally made it to a bar to watch my Dawgs. Well, watch them lose unfortunately. Personally I really disliked their new uniforms. When the traditions of football and the reputation that teams need to uphold is in question recently, a deviation from our deep roots seems like a slap in the face. My true disappointment lied with the lack of silver britches, probably the uniform piece we are best known for. Instead, we opted for an all red scheme with a "Go Go Power Rangers!" feel. To add to our attempt at something new (let's remind ourselves about the black-out we had 3 years ago versus Bama. Ouch!), we looked like a mess all over the field. The best part about my night was the discovery of Left Hand Black Jack Porter. Yum!

But back to what I actually created this weekend. I am moving into my new Buckhead apartment this Friday (hopefully) and really wanting to start designing/decorating for it already. I am somewhat jumping the gun and really just creating more things for me to move and pack, but I couldn't help myself. My project that finally got finished were these framed photos. I started with black frames picked up from Hobby Lobby in all different sizes and primed them to put a light pink/skintone color on them (acrylic paint). It always helps that mom has a paint studio in her basement.

I then let them dry, and white washed them with a stiff brush. See the difference!

I also decided any old mat wouldn't do, so I covered mine with fabrics that I also picked up from Hobby Lobby.

Then I added some edited photos from my Paris trip and got these. So excited to hang them!

Finally, you know I couldn't go two whole weeks without baking. I used THIS recipe and mine turned out looking more like pink and yellow tie-dye than two distinct colors, but how cool! They also turned out to be a hit at the office. A good way to kick off a Tuesday and the first rainy/chilly day Georgia has seen in months.

Move to Atlanta: T - 5 days

It's almost here!! The day I move into the big city, ready to take on life ITP (inside the perimeter, aka I-285). With the anticipation and excitement building, I have been running through decorating blogs like crazy, gaining ideas on how to decorate my room perfectly. I have most of my ideas noted, such as yellow washed walls, antique teal and blue accents, and lots of white/off white textures. But the DIY-er in me has also taken hold, wanting to add my own touches to my current furniture pieces and creating works to decorate the walls. Besides trying to get everything right though, the biggest challenge will be finding enough room to house my ever-expanding wardrobe. It needs to be dwindled, and soon, even though my apartment will have a walk in closet just for me! I have also decided on a new name for my blog, since A) I'm no longer Jobless and B) I'm no longer Homeless. So my friends, welcome to "Reminisceering and Spancreating", more or less a jumble of words stating that there is an engineering of memories and a spanning of my creations to others.
